ENHANCING THE SPACE

Contrasting materials, striking lighting fixtures, custom-made furniture, and a calm, understated color palette turn this building’s common areas into refined and surprising spaces.

Cruz de La Pava was commissioned by the construction firm PGA to design the interior architecture and interior design of the common areas at Unique W apartments in Cali, designed by architect Andrés Gómez, also from PGA. The project’s fluid and cohesive result is due, among other factors, to Cruz de La Pava’s involvement after their interior design proposal was approved — assisting in the selection of finish materials, lighting plans, the creation of textures in specific points, and other project details.

“Starting from the spatial configuration proposed by architect Gómez, we enhanced the spaces to create well-being with a high-end aesthetic; we like objects to be unique, sculptural, and different,” add Camilo and Felipe. This is why the vast majority of the furniture, lighting fixtures, mirrors, architectural woodwork, and accessories were designed and produced by Cruz de La Pava.

The areas they worked on —lobby, gym, bike box, movie theater, social room/bar, coworking space, terrace, and a striking open-air space featuring a dead tree transformed into a sculpture— perfectly express the aesthetic and attention to detail that define the duo.

Light is another constant in the design; Cruz de La Pava combines lighting fixtures that emphasize and create atmospheres, while also contributing to the aesthetic through their materiality and shapes. In the gym, cylindrical pendants hang from the ceiling; in reception, spherical ones; and in the coworking space, they achieved a surprising blend of styles.

Location: Cali, Colombia

Intervened area: 2.000 m2

“We believe there is an awakening in the concept of housing: developers have realized the importance of creating well-thought-out, aesthetic, and distinctive common spaces, as this adds value to the project. And people are asking for it,” Cruz de La Pava.

In the lobby, the design strives for absolute cleanliness, highlighted by a massive orthogonal stone counter. Further inside, another space reinforcing Cruz de La Pava’s “tropiglam” (tropical glamour) aesthetic is the cinema, which carries a touch of old Hollywood charm.

Known for designing their own furniture —which they also manufacture—, the La Tertulia lounge features a striking billiard table combining concrete, bronze, wood, and the bar area. The bar itself is a one-of-a-kind piece: against a wall of striated gray concrete, an arch with an alabaster tympanum rises, flanked by mirrored surfaces that reflect the backdrop and the lamp in front. Wooden furnishings and gray travertine tops complete the look of this lounge, which plays with surrealist touches.
